The Kerang Blues were formed in 1996 through the merger of Kerang Rovers and Appin. The new club was initially known as Kerang Rovers Appin before changing its name to Kerang in 2000. Prior to the merger, Appin had been a member of the Kerang and District Football League since 1945, claiming two senior flags.
Kerang Rovers was established in 1991 when Northern and Echuca Football League rivals Kerang and Kerang Rovers amalgamated, with the resultant club retaining Kerang Rovers’ name and navy blue and white colours. Much of the original Kerang Rovers club’s history had been spent in the KDFL alongside Appin. In 1954, 1971 and 1975, the club won senior grade premierships. Kerang had also briefly been a member of the KDFL, and had won the 1946 premiership in that competition. However, between 1953 and 1989 the club had competed in the Northern District Football League, claiming senior grade premiership success on four occasions.
Today the Kerang Blues compete in the Central Murray Football League.
